As Salat: “it is a favour from Him, and grace (bestowed) upon them…””

Verily, man (disbeliever) was created very impatient; Irritable (discontented) when evil touches him; And niggardly when good touches him;- Except those who are devoted to Salât (prayers). Those who remain constant in their Salât (prayers); (23)
(Al Maaarij (70):19-23)

regarding the prayer Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyyah said:

“Know, that verily there is no doubt that the salaah […] is the mercy of Allaah which He has bestowed (given as a gift of guidance) to His believing servants. He guided them to it, and made them know (about) it, and granted it to them as a gift on the hands of His truthful and trustworthy messenger as a mercy for them, and by way of honouring them in order for them […] to (successfully) attain closeness to Him. (He guided them to it) NOT because of His need for them (their worship), rather, it is a favour from Him, and grace (bestowed) upon them…”

“Verily, the prayer keeps one from the great sins and evil deeds”
(al-Ankaboot (29):45).

Nadwi has described this effect:

“Its aim is to generate within the subliminal self of man such spiritual power, light of faith and awareness of God as can enable him to strive successfully against all kinds of evils and temptations and remain steadfast at times of trial and adversity and protect himself against the weakness of the flesh and the mischief of immoderate appetites.”
